 Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems actively strives to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
This is not only limited to the quantitative reduction of packaging materials. The characteristics of a coffee system during its operational life also have an impact. In order to acquire insight and to realize improvements Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems applies life cycle analysis (LCA).
The statement on environmental policy features the following:
Sara Lee will continue to improve environmental performance in a manner that respects the earth and our finite resources. Three fundamental principles guide our efforts:

In addition, the farmer policy and ecological products are part of the environment. Although we have maintained a 'small farmer' policy for many years, we are now in the process of implementing 'sustainable coffee' as a next step.
Our global environmental management system (GEMS) is a tool to ensure these principles are integrated into our daily business. Our GEMS also ensures constant attention to reducing waste, minimizing overall environmental impact and enhancing value.
